Remote Learning
At Malorees Primary School, Google Classroom is our main online learning platform. All pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 use Google Classroom to access and submit home learning, and pupils are familiar with using the platform as part of their learning. Pupils in the Early Years and Foundation Stage our main online platform is EYLog.
If the school needs to move to remote learning
If circumstances require the school, a year group or a whole cohort to learn from home, we will use Google Classroom as the central platform for remote learning.
Our aim would be to provide pupils with a clear, structured and engaging programme of learning that continues to follow the school curriculum as closely as possible. Teachers would provide daily learning activities, resources and instructions through Google Classroom, with appropriate opportunities for pupils to submit work and receive feedback.
Where appropriate, remote learning may include:
- Daily English, mathematics and wider curriculum activities.
- Recorded or live teaching and explanations.
- Independent tasks and activities to consolidate learning.
- Opportunities for reading, physical activity, creativity and wellbeing.
- Regular feedback and support from teachers.
- Opportunities for pupils to communicate with their teachers through the agreed school systems.
We recognise that remote learning can be challenging for children and families. Teachers will provide clear guidance and appropriate support to help pupils work independently, while understanding that families may have different circumstances and levels of access to technology.
Supporting access to learning
We recognise that some families may experience difficulties accessing online learning due to issues with devices or internet connectivity. If this happens, parents and carers should contact the school office so that we can discuss how we can support your child to access their learning.
We will also consider alternative arrangements where online learning is not appropriate or accessible.
What are the expectations?
Pupils are expected to approach remote learning in the same positive way that they approach learning in school. They should:
- Log in to Google Classroom regularly and follow the learning provided.
- Complete tasks to the best of their ability.
- Submit work as requested by their teacher.
- Ask for help when they need it.
- Continue to demonstrate our school values and treat others with kindness and respect.
Parents and carers are not expected to be teachers. Their role is to help establish a suitable routine, encourage their child to engage with their learning and contact the school if additional support is needed.
Keeping in touch
If remote learning is required, the school will provide families with clear information about arrangements, expectations and how to access learning. Communication will be managed through the school's usual channels.
Any safeguarding or welfare concerns should continue to be reported to the school office using the school's usual procedures.
